Cam's first class was today, and turns out there's only 6 or so kids in the class. As they were trying to figure out where this one kid belonged (not in Hockey 1, like he thought), Cam suddenly announced to his class:
"HEY! Want to know how to "hockey stop"?!"
Cam, so I thought, didn't know how to hockey stop. That's kind of the point of this class, for him to learn the techniques. And from watching him at Intro To Hockey, he didn't know how.
But Cam had apparently taught himself how 30 seconds ago, because that's how he is on the ice. He decides he wants to do something and teaches himself. Instantly.
So he suddenly starts power skating cross ice, performing a very nice hockey stop at mid ice and back to the wall over and over, while the other students "oohed" and "awed". None of these kids could hockey stop. They couldn't even skate backwards (which he also demonstrated to them).
It was five minutes into class.
The instructor skated over to me and said "You know, he should probably be in Hockey 2 or 3 (advanced). He's going to be bored. I'm sorry!"
I shrugged, it didn't matter. Hockey 1 is the only skating class available over the summer, and not only will the class solidify his skills that he decides to teach himself, but it gives him more ice time, which, I'm learning, is a premium for little hockey players.
