Like, our little Coast Guard base is completely swallowed up by miles and miles of farmland. Which makes it nice and quiet, clean air, beautiful scenery.
But the best part? The plethora of pumpkin patches in October!
We had a family outing this morning and went to our first pumpkin patch of the season. Our favorite is maybe 15 minutes away (Santa Rosa Pumpkin Patch, for the curious locals), and has all the favorites. Corn mazes, corn pits, hay rides and of course a gigantic pumpkin patch, among other things.
But just as we were heading out the door, it started to rain. Not just rain, pour. The first rain in probably 7 months.
Well fine, be that way.
So we came back inside and had second breakfast (because my kids are hobbits and never stop eating) and once the rain stopped we said "screw it, let's go" and headed to the pumpkin patch.
It's better that it was cold and rainy anyways. No one wants to celebrate fall and go to a pumpkin patch when it's 85 degrees and sunny.
We picked our pumpkins in the u-pick field first, and thank goodness we did, because right when we picked our last pumpkin it began to rain again. But instead of abandoning the rest of our family day, we stuck in there, and did the rest of the farm in the rain. I mean, we're not wicked witches or anything. It's not like we're going to melt. We're from Seattle, for crying out loud.
So the kids played in the corn pit and ran through the hay maze and swung on the tire swings in the pouring rain. We soaked through 3 layers of clothes each and basically were walking like zombies with our arms sticking out by the end of it, but it was good old classic soaking wet fall fun.
