Day 108: Bouncing Off the Walls

We had a seriously busy day today.

Because the base we live on is so far away from civilization, I try to make my errands count. So if I'm going to go into town, I'm going to knock out everything on my list.

This was infinitely easier when I could do this in the morning while the kids were at school. But now that summer vacation is in full swing, they have to suffer the mind-numbing boredom of being carted around with me as we visit that store and that store and that store.

So we started at the mall with some returns and then went over to Costco in Santa Rosa. Our SUV's tire has a slow leak, and our Costco tires are under warranty. So I go in there and tell the guy I need it looked at, and he looks at me with this totally unimpressed face that I could punch and says in a bored voice: "The wait is 3 hours at this point."

"Three hours?!!!" I literally laughed in his face and walked away without saying anything else.

"Mom this stack of tires is bigger than me!"

So we went to the next Costco down south a few miles in Rohnert Park and went to the tire center. And the wait was almost 2 hours.

I looked at my kids, who were SO patient today, and I said a decided "NOPE" and determined that it was worth driving slightly crooked on the road for a few days then waiting around in a busy Costco on a Friday with two kids.

Disclaimer: emphasis on slow in this leak. We have an air compressor and Brad is taking it in Sunday. Don't think we're not being safe. And if you do, go post it on Facebook about how unsafe we are, you judgy mcjudgerton.

So since the kids were so patient this morning we decided to reward them by meeting up with their friend Calvin and going to Rebounderz immediately following our failed Costco trips. Their aunt and uncle gave them both gift cards there for their birthdays and now that school's out we finally had time to use part of it.

For those unaware, Rebounderz is a trampoline park. If kids (and one adult - to put in the safety measures) were given the thumbs up by God to remodel Heaven, it would be this place. An indoor, climate controlled mecca of all things bouncy. The floors are trampolines. The walls are trampolines. There's a trampoline basketball court and a trampoline launch pad into a foam pit and a trampoline dodgeball arena. And if that wasn't enough, there's a 2 story playground made entirely of smushy plastic, and a gigantic video arcade. And a snack bar with Icees. I mean really. You can't make this place any better.

And to appease the parents, it's clean. It's clean like Chuck E Cheese isn't. The floors are clean, the play areas are clean, the bathrooms are clean. It smells nice in there (a surprising feat considering how many sweaty humans of all ages are floating around in there) and nothing is sticky. It may cost a little bit more, but you get what you pay for. Like not having to go to Chuck E Cheese. Really. Pay up buttercup.

For an hour we let the boys be as crazy as they could be. Bounce off the walls (literally), do flips into the gigantic foam pit, squeeze out every last drop of energy they possibly had in their little bodies until their time was up. An hour doesn't seem like much, but they were totally gassed. Cam fell asleep before we even got out of the parking lot.

Cam on the right, but look at Calen getting serious air
Heaven.
Calen pretending he's Steph Curry

Because we hadn't completed enough errands today, we went from Rebounderz to the salon to get their haircut.

This was a very calculated decision. I figured tired little boys would sit a little more still in their salon chairs.

Camden got his classic summer mohawk he's had for 2 years in a row now and Calen cleaned up a bit (he asked for a mohawk but I told him it doesn't fit his personality, and as a consolation prize promised him he could pick out a box of hair color for the summer and we would do tips. Be on the lookout for a future blog post).

We finished off the day with popcorn and family movie night. We picked up Zootopia at Costco since none of us had seen it. Very cute movie with a lot of undertone real life issues that were addressed.

movie night!
And now we sleep and prepare for another busy day tomorrow.

Summer is the best.
