Day 32: Opening Night

Baseball season is here! Finally! After months of waiting, spring ball has finally arrived and it's Opening Day!

No, it's not. The official "Opening Day" ceremony was supposed to be last Saturday, but it got rained out, because Northern California likes to pretend it's actually the Pacific Northwest for months at a time.

But today did kick off spring season games, and as it turns out, Calen's age division (Triple-A, aka 11u) has later timed weeknight games.

Also known as: playing under the lights like big shots!

Calen's team this season is the Cubs, which, being his fourth (and final) spring season at Rohnert Park Cal Ripken youth baseball league, he has successfully NOT repeated a team (Indians, Red Sox, A's, Cubs). It is however his first spring without his beloved #11, but he said he will deal with it (can't we just put masking tape on it to make another "1" and turn it into 11? Or is that poor taste).

It was great to see Calen on the field again tonight. He started at right field and also played 2nd base. Not a whole lot happened on the field tonight, but he did score two walks, and was lightning fast as a runner, credited with a stolen base and a run scored.

And now, for the game-night routine of soaking white baseball pants in a 5 gallon bucket of hot water, Oxy Clean, and blue Dawn dish soap.
