We had a BIG adventure planned for today. We got up at 5am and hopped on a catamaran for a 5 hour long tour up the impossible-to-reach Na Pali coast.
Admittingly I was really worried about this trip, as the weather and seas were HORRIBLE yesterday, but it really turned out fantastic. We all dawned our ear plugs and dramamine pills and loaded up for a day of adventure.
Yes - the one earplug really DOES work |
The seas were rough but not at all terrible (for me). There was definitely a bucket brigade in the back of the boat - many people got sick (but no one in our family, not even Calen who is more prone to motion sickness). In fact we had a great time on the front of the boat, watching the boat jump up and down in the waves.
The boys personalities in a nutshell. Calen up on the bow calmly watching the waves, Camden kneeling in the splash zone getting completely smashed by every other wave (and laughing and loving it) |
Suddenly we were visiting by an entire pod of spinner dolphins! I mean how amazing. One jumped and spun right in front of us. That combined with the literally jello blue water and it was just amazing.
As we hit the coastline, it felt like we were on a different planet. The lush green coastline is literally carved out of the earth in bizarre jagged edges. There were waterfalls abundant, and it was told that several movies were filmed there (Jurassic Park, pirates of the carribean, etc).
On our return trip, a baby humpback whale breached not 100 yards ahead of us, the coolest thing we’ve ever seen.
All in all it was a FANTASTIC once in a lifetime experience.
We still had half the day left, so we headed to Kiahuna beach, right in front of a resort. This is the third beach in 3 days we’ve attempted, and it was the kids favorite with epic waves for boogie boarding. We spent the entire afternoon there, and the kids never stopped swimming.
Epic day, one for the books
