We started off with an easy one. The kids and I made these "reindeer treats" a couple of years ago and they're yummy, cheap and stupid simple.
Here's what you need:
- pretzels (either whole regular pretzels or if you're stupid like me and buy the square ones, break them in half diagonally)
- Rollos (who doesn't love rollos, seriously)
- M&Ms (especially red ones)
preheat your oven to whatever. As long as it's warm but not broiling.
Place your pretzel(s) on a cookie sheet. If you used square ones, break them in half diagonally to shape them like reindeer. If you didn't, congratulate yourself and put a whole pretzel shape down.
Put a Rollo on each pretzel.
Toss in the oven for like two seconds maybe. Or a minute. Long enough for the Rollos to get soft but NOT melty.
Pull out the cookie sheet. While it's still warm, gently squish an M&M into the Rollo.
Tada! Reindeer treats!
Camden insisted they all have red noses but Calen thought it'd be funny to have "white nose reindeer" and then used green too. All in all this little project took maybe 20 minutes. Done done and done.
In celebration of our culinary masterpieces, we watched Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer again, and then read a different adaptation of the story tonight for story time.
Well that was easy.
Now I just have to find 24 more supremely clever activities for the month.
