Day 211: Bushcraft Camp

And now for something a little different!

The boys obviously get their fair share of outdoor adventures. Between boy scout campouts, hiking and events, and our own family's hikes and adventures on the water, we do a pretty good job of keeping them in the great outdoors.

But I still will jump at any new opportunity that comes along, especially here, where said opportunities are limited on the island and the thirst for variety is insatiable.

The local baptist mission here put on a "bushcraft weekend" for any kids aged 5 and up. Not they aren't well skilled in bushcraft, but it featured axe throwing and archery, and why not learn something new, in a new place with different kids?

Brad and the boys were gone all day at Bushcraft Camp. They started at the mission and then took the small ferry over to Woody Island, learning firestarting with flint and steel, archery, and axe throwing. The rain held out, and they had a blast.

Calen, it turns out, is an excellent archer. If not hitting bullseyes, he groups his shots remarkably well together.

Camden's strength was definitely firestarting with flint and steel, and they even got to bring home their own flint and steel kit.

The boys came home chattering with excitement of the day and how they want to do more archery in Scouts, so I would consider this day camp a wild success.
