Kicking Off Fall (Finally)

It finally finally cooled down today to what actually feels like "fall."

As in 54 degrees, cloudy and spotty rain.

Who knew anyone from Seattle could be so excited about clouds and rain?

But I was.

Because going to a pumpkin patch in 80 degree sunshine doesn't really scream "fall" to me, we waited until this first cold day to bundle up in our neglected jackets and knit caps to take the trek up north to a big farm with a u-pick pumpkin patch, hayrides, apple orchards (which were closed for the season...booo hisssssss), a huge farm themed playground, corn maze (which we skipped) and probably the biggest barn transformed into a gift/goodies/farmer's market in New Jersey.

Goodbye, October budget.

The best thing about the pumpkin farm was that because it was cold and rainy it scared away all the weather-fearing tourists. So the farm was basically empty.

Weeners.

At Johnson's Corner Farm in Medford, NJ
My favorite part was when we took the tractor hay-ride to the pumpkin fields and the farm hand guy told my kids to NOT play with the hay lining the hay-ride trailer.

....isn't playing with the hay the whole point of a HAY-ride? It's not like they were throwing it at people or anything. They were just picking it up and plopping it in their laps.

Don't tell my kids not to play with hay at a FARM. Idiots.

Calen playing with the forbidden HAY on the HAY ride
The kids' favorite part was this little area in the playground section where they had several sheds converted to little kid "stores" that they could role-play in. There was a farmer's market with toy fruits and vegetables, a grocery cart and a cash register, a vet clinic with toy animals and doctor's kits, a construction workshop, a fire station, etc. Calen even cried when we left the "stores" to go on the hay ride to the pumpkin patch.

God forbid we took him away from something FUN to do something FUN.

What terrible parents we are.

They really did have fun away from the "stores", we just had to convince them of it.

Aside from the outrageous prices it's a really fun farm and we will go again next year.
