Day 282: Purple Reign

And now for an interruption of Christmas to bring you this special announcement.

Brad and I both grew up following the University of Washington Huskies football. Purple and gold reigned in basically every household in the Puget Sound area, especially in the early 90s when the Huskies were good and the Seahawks were bad. My household had season tickets, so I'd usually get to go to one or two games a season.

Fast forward to 2016 and we live in Northern California, a mere 90 minutes away from the location of the Pac-12 Championship each year. The Huskies are in it for the first time in over 15 years, and through an organization the base was giving away free tickets in a lottery.

And guess who won 4 free tickets?!

So, we adorned our Seahawks gear (and purple jacket...since the kids have outgrown all their Husky stuff and mine wore out years ago) and took the drive to Levi's Stadium to watch the Pac-12 title game.

We had a great time. We lucked out by sitting corner endzone, Colorado endzone but Husky sideline. The kids learned how to "Woof" and chop their hands forward for kickoffs, and dance to "Celebrate Good Times", things I did at Husky games as a kid. We saw 3 interceptions on our corner of the field and one ridiculous one-handed catch by John Ross III.

Huskies pulled away and won the Pac-12 title 41-10. We stuck around for the trophy presentation and the purple and gold confetti, and called it a night.

What a great experience for all of us. Thanks to the organization that collected all those free tickets and gave them away to us!

Purple smoke as the Huskies run out onto the field!
Go U-Dub!
Champions! Woof!

Great family night!
