Day 285: Popsicle Trees and Marshmallow Popcorn

We continued our 25 days of Christmas today (or whatever you want to call it, because I'm not actually counting days) by doing a fun and easy Pinterest project I threw together in about 15 minutes. The end result is a popsicle stick Christmas tree ornament thing. Here's a quick how-to for those that feign interest:

1. Take some popsicle sticks (don't be gross. Buy some unused popsicle sticks from Michaels. Preferably in two different sizes).

2. Hot glue those babies together to make them look like a tree (i.e. large stick for the "trunk", two small sticks on top, two large ones on bottom).

3a. Take your kids shirts off.

3b. Let your kids paint their trees. Set out to dry (we ate dinner while we waited).

3c. Use your hairdryer to speed up this process. I bet Martha Stewart has some kind of fancy craft drying rack under a window that only ever gets natural organic sunlight in a corner room of her handmade GMO free house. I prefer a quick whirrr of the Walmart blow dryer.

4. Once the paint is dry, find whatever you can find and help the kids hot glue (or stick if they're stickers) ornaments and decorations on the trees. We used a plethora of random shit I found in the Christmas craft bin. Some tinsel balls, some stickers from a sticker book, pipe cleaners and the like.

5. Use more pipe cleaners to make a loop and hot glue to the back of their trees to make an ornament out of it.

Done.

I liked this project because it was simple BUT kept the kids occupied for a long time. It's one of those I'll keep in my back pocket for Christmas parties with kids or cousins.

Ready to paint!
Painting in this house is shirts off only (except for me...obviously)
Let's all take a minute to appreciate Camden and his elf hat
Calen stayed very symmetrical. He is my child.
Cam went for the larger embellishments and made "candy trees"

After we finished the trees we watched the Polar Express (all of our personal favorites) for the first time this season and decided to make some Christmas popcorn. Which is nothing more than popcorn with red & green M&Ms and peppermint marshmallows.

Because all popcorn should be adorned with marshmallows.
