Day 296: Giving Is Better Than Getting, And Other Lies We Tell Our Children.

The kids have had a hard time with being humble and thankful for what they have lately. And coincidentally Christmas is a week away. And so after a few lectures and threats and all that we put our money where our mouth is and took the boys out Christmas shopping for other people tonight.

The lesson went well and maybe, just maybe, we got through to them (or at least Calen. We'll give Cam a free pass for a couple years). They very methodically and thoughtfully picked out gifts for each of their (young) cousins and their teachers. We celebrated a job well done with hot chocolate (and chocolate milk for Cam) at Starbucks and then came home and Calen helped me wrap them.

Calen wrapping! And Cam in the background doing anything to not fall asleep.

Calen said it's fun giving presents to others. Which is either how he really feels, or a scripted lie to impress me because we force feed it to them. Both of which I'll accept.

Because let's face it. No 7 year old will actually think that.

Also Camden insisted on getting his teacher a new mug (since Calen had thought up the idea of giving his teacher a "silly" coffee mug and some coffee) and genuinely thought this was the coolest mug in all of Target.

Camden's teacher always says that she's always guaranteed a laugh with Cam. The thing is, Cam wasn't trying to be funny (this time). He believes he got her a thoughtful gift and she is going to howl. Everyone wins.

It's a trailer mug. Seriously.
