Tuesday Night Specials

You know what happens when you live on a military base with like 8291 families that accumulate four years worth of shit stuff and then all move at the same time?

Trash days (or rather, the night BEFORE trash day) are freaking amazing. People get rid of AWESOME stuff.

Our trash day is Wednesday. So, as of the last two weeks, a new tradition among our little circle of wives has sprung up. Every Tuesday night, after dark, we walk up and down the street scouring over what people have thrown away and taking awesome free shit home.

This is known as the Tuesday Night Special.

This week we added cocktails. Which really makes it a great time.

Mainly we just do it as an excuse to get out of the house in the middle of the week and drink.

Disclaimer: No, we don't like dig through people's trash bags (usually). Most of the good stuff is in boxes or just laying next to their garbage bin. Before tonight I've gotten an entire box of children's books, some extra outdoor firepit chairs, our plastic sandbox (WITH lid!), some planters, a few toys and best of all, a PATIO SET! (which looks like garbage--no pun intended, but after a new paint job will look awesome).

So tonight the four of us walked USCG Housing with our green Solo cups (I was smart enough to hide my beverage in a non-suspicious Coast Guard thermos) and dug through the trash.

We all scored today. I got a Skim-Board (like surfing, but it's wood and called "skimming." Google it) and a toy motorcycle. My friend Ashley got a toy stroller. Heather got an awesome ride on toy and snow shovel (hey, you NEVER know when you might need a snow shovel. In New Jersey. In May) and Kerry dragged around a giant plastic storage tub.

And it's only the beginning of transfer season!

This game is a LOT of fun with cocktails. The more you drink, the stranger the items you pick up that you suddenly decide is ESSENTIAL to your life.

....Wow, we sound like Hoarders, don't we?

In the middle of tonight's Tuesday Night Special run. Brad was nice enough to come outside and take a picture.
