The Rain Parade

So apparently the outskirts of some big terrible snow rain blizzard apocalyptic storm named Nemo is upon us.

Sorry, but when I hear the name "Nemo", I think of a tiny little fish with a gimpy fin, not some terrible super storm.

Maybe that's just the mom in me. Or maybe they should grow up and stop naming every weather system that strikes the United States. Stupid drama-ridden media.

And since it was too warm to snow today, it rained. All day. Torrential rain. Flooding in the back and front yard kind of rain

It seems that we can go days exclusively inside and be perfectly fine, but the one day that we are actually stuck inside due to horrific weather, the kids conveniently choose that day to lose their brains and go stir crazy.

We did puzzles. We did workbooks with Calen (dry erase workbooks to read and write the alphabet and simple words). We read books. We even brought out the Neo-tracks (our go-to rainy day activity) and made a track so that the motorized cars went through a "dinosaur zoo" and then over a bridge where in the water underneath was infested with car-eating sharks. But even dinosaurs and sharks violently eating motorized cars -- which usually keeps them satisfied -- didn't keep them entertained long enough to make it through the day.

Jurassic Park on a G rated 1:60 scale. Or something like that.
We gave up, and surrendered to the rain. I threw on the kids' sweatshirts, goulashes and rain jackets, and we went outside to play in the flood. What's the point of having rain jackets and boots without using them, anyways.

You know it's a legit rain storm when you get to stomp in mud puddles in what used to be your GRASS.

The kids loved it. It was cold and still raining so we all got beyond soaked, but it was a welcome 30 minute break from sitting inside driving each other banana sandwich.

This was Cam's favorite puddle. He really liked to investigate it closely.
