In like, good ways and bad ways.
Calen's 3rd birthday party was today (his birthday is a week from today, but we planned it early so that his best buddy Mason could attend before he moved away). And because I think I'm intelligent, I spent precious hours of my life this morning cleaning the crap out of my house. In preparation for 11 CHILDREN (and six adults) to invade, spill cake/pizza/gatorade all over the floors and reek any type of havoc you could imagine.
Yeah not sure why I thought cleaning the house was an intelligent idea.
It was wild. It was fun. It was LOUD. There were so many kids running through the house fueled with pizza, chips and cake that I'm pretty sure my floors were moving on it's own.
Ever wonder what would happen if you put a handful of spider monkeys, a rhinoceros, a few hyenas, some angry bees and the entire cast of Yo Gabba Gabba in one room, and then inject them all with Red Bull and Caffeine Pills and set them loose on each other? That was pretty much my house today.
Disclaimer: No children ingested caffeine pills or Red Bull in the making of this birthday party. People that believe everything they read should immediately seek medical treatment.
The monster truck cake was a big hit with everyone. Especially the under-four-foot variety. Calen was especially happy when he was FINALLY allowed to touch and play with the monster truck toys on the cake. Even Cam was given half a slice to
EVERY boy needs a self-powered projectile weapon. Score!

I told Calen that Mason was going away for a long time. I assume that he assumes that we will go visit Mason at least twice a year like we do his friends in Washington. The reality is we may see him again, we may not. That reality is even truer for his other friends moving to other states this summer.
Literally, EVERY little friend that Calen has is moving away. I'm not sure where to even begin with telling him that ALL of his friends are moving away.
No, you can't go play with Mason. No, not Saoirse either. No, Matty and Aiden are gone too. No, not tomorrow either. No one is coming back. Ever.
Brutal.
Military life is stupid. And annoying. And heartbreaking.
And necessary. Right now anyways.
Try explaining to my almost-three year old that it's "necessary".
Calen's birthday crew. ALL of these kids with the exception of his friend in pink is moving. |
